The Elite Neighborhoods of the Southside is a residential area, comprised of 1920s-era single-family houses on large lots.

The Tennis Club formed in the late 19th century; the current clubhouse was built in the 1920s. It is typical of many cities to have private clubs for the middle and upper-middle class and the elite.   These clubs are used for sport as well as a community-gathering place where the whole family can gather for events such as weddings and business transactions.

Dwight Street is a typical South Side block of larger houses from the 1920s and 1930s with fairly large lots.  Many of these houses have been homes and offices of doctors, dentists, and lawyers.  It is inhabited by a number of the power elite in the City of Poughkeepsie, both politically and financially.  Dwight Street is a nice example of residential amenities available on the South Side.
